November = Fall Colors
While there is definitely more color than a week ago we still have some time until Fall is on its full display. As I look back at my past sessions with the most Fall color they are all in November. That is why November is the best month to schedule your Fall family sessions. If your looking for pictures with Fall colors.
Here are a few of my favorite locations for Fall family shoots – there are so many fantastic options in our area!
Pearl District Downtown Portland
Sternwheel Park -La CenterWSU campus
Your yard – yes some people have stunning displays in their own yards!
So if you have been considering a Fall session I have great news for you! I have availability in November. I would love to book your family session today!
What I’ve been Photographing
Class of 2021 – We are squeezing in some last minute senior photos to make those yearbook deadlines.
Family Sessions – If you love the look of Fall, the colors the sweaters, boots, jeans this is the perfect time for a family session. This week I did a session down in the Pearl District of Portland and up on a family farm in Ridgefield.
My Current Favorite – Besides Fall Colors
In spite of forecast I didn’t have to reschedule a single shoot last week!
Soup! It’s soup making season and I love making soups! So far I’ve made vegan butternut squash and taco soups. I love to make a large batch and then enjoy the leftovers for lunch all week! This week I made a vegan creamy vegetable soup. So yummy!
What I’m Reading
I finally finished Olive the Lionhearted – read last weeks review here https://shellyfryphotography.com/my-everyday/fall-mini-sessions-shelly-fry-photography-battle-ground-wa What it took me awhile to see is that Olive was grieving for her fiancé. I am always challenged by stories where people have a few casual meetings and then decide to pledge their lives to someone. I just feel you need to get to know someone first. Olive and Boyd only knew each other through a few meetings when their story begins.
Here is what I have learned about Olive (this is a true story). She was honorable. Initially, she turned Boyd down because she had promised herself to someone else (but didn’t love him). Boyd left for Africa thinking he had been refused. The author shares the letters which were written between the two as eventually Olive breaks things off with her former fiancé and officially accepts Boyd all while he has left for Africa.
Boyd is described as the most famed naturalist of his time and he takes his mission in Africa very seriously. When word of his death reaches Olive she decides to embark on her own journey to Africa to retrace Boyd’s steps and learn of his fate. As she journeys she writes in her diary which is where much of this book comes from. That is why to my eye, it reads like a travel journal. But it also includes her nightly letters to Boyd as she processes her grief. But Olive doesn’t just casually travel. Most of this journey is on foot, camel, canoe it is not an easy trip. She takes side jaunts as well and as a result is the first woman to explore and discover some areas. In the end I did enjoy reading Olive’s story.
4 stars
The Jane Austen Society by Natalie Jenner
This month’s book club pick is what I will be starting tonight. I also picked up Emma, Pride and Prejudice and Sens and Sensibility because I have never read any of them! While I have seen Pride and Prejudice giving me some insight, it is high time I read those books. So they are on my to-read shelf.
What’s Next – Fall Colors
I have just a couple more Seniors and a family shoot this next week. I also have a cooperate shoot at an architecture firm and a head shot coming to the studio.
I’m looking forward to booking more Family sessions during November for those who want to capture the Fall colors. I love these pictures of Ty and Kim enjoying the Fall colors on a random street in Portland last year.
Christmas Mini Sessions – Coming in November
Yes, its true its almost time for Christmas Mini sessions! If you don’t have time for a full session and are looking for something quick and fun to share with friends and family this year why not book a 20 minute mini session?! With each session you receive 5 digital images and the option to purchase more if you choose. These are favorites for many to use on their Holiday Cards each year.
I will be officially announcing them to my newsletter subscribers first on November 1st. Sessions will be held on Nov 22nd and I will have limited spots. I will announce them to everyone else on my weekly blog on Nov 5th if there are any remaining spots. If you’d like to get into the early release group – sign up for my once a month newsletter here http://madmimi.com/signups/f92831e48f4c4758a38ad3779e2d9f9b/join
This will be my 4th annual Christmas minis here at the studio and I will not be using the rustic wood background. I am working on designing a set and gathering props with a white/green theme this year. I’m so excited!
I hope your week is going well friends! Take some time to enjoy those Fall colors today!
