Family Sessions – Shelly Fry Photography

Family Sessions

Family sessions are a lot of fun! Obviously I think photography is an important way to document our lives. Family sessions are such a special way to capture for ever the different seasons of your family’s lives. Honestly I understand how challenging it can be to coordinate all that needs to be done to show up at a family session. Once we get started we really have a good time. The hard work is done and your only job is to relax and enjoy the session. They goal is always a lot of laughter and fun with each other. This past week I had the opportunity to photograph the Johnson Family. All 6 of them and their two 10 month old pups! Oh and did I mention we had some snow just for extra fun?!!!

One of my favorite things to discuss with clients is the location for your session. There are so very many options! I always begin with the questions – Do you prefer rural or urban? From there we talk about all sorts of options. Some people prefer to stay close. Other’s are looking for more of an adventure. Whatever it is that suits your family I’m happy to make it work! Here is a link to a post I wrote a couple of years ago about some of my favorite local options for session location https://shellyfryphotography.com/my-everyday/top-6-locations-for-a-shoot-shelly-fry-photography

One of the things I do a lot is worry about the weather. I worry about the weather because I can’t control it. When the weather cooperates with nice temperatures, and gorgeous light I am one happy photographer. When this family approached me regarding scheduling their family session the possibility of doing a snow session came up. As we discussed the logistics and timing of driving up to the snow they decided they preferred to stay local and we decided on another location.  Their date was booked and we were all set. They booked on short notice and I was happy to be able to look ahead and see that the day we booked was the only dry day in the future forecast.

I kept an eye on the weather for that day all week. Each morning it said the same thing, dry on that date. Then, two days before it suddenly changed to 80% rain. UGGGGHHHHHHH!!!! But I realize our forecasting isn’t always that reliable and decided to keep my eye on it.  I will spare you all of the emotional angst that went on with me for the next couple of days. Even the morning of I was unsure if we were going to make it work. Then, SNOW!!!! Once the snow started falling I was really excited, and nervous. There were still a few hours until our scheduled time. But as you can see the snow cooperated and this family was able to get their snow session. They decided to come to the studio because they love the exterior and my Christmas décor. I wish I could arrange snow on demand. Wouldn’t that be amazing!!

Ozzy is home!

We have a new Grand-pup! His name is Ozzy and he is the cutest!! He is a mini Aussie and so far “Aunt Lucy” is handling the new addition really well. Mom and Dad are a bit sleep deprived right now as they work on potty training.  Ty and Kim are over the moon with their new little fluff ball! We are having the best time watching him run around with his fuzzy little butt and watching he a Lucy figure out each other.  It’s so much fun to have a puppy in the family again! The best part is we just get to love on him and don’t have to get up with him during the night!!

Thanks for stopping by!
