I’m a big believer in goal setting – personally and professionally.
It’s important to have something you are working towards – something to focus your energy towards.
When setting goals I have to create small measurable steps – where I can see progress which creates energy and enthusiasm – which helps me keep moving forward.
Last year I wrote down some specific goals for my photography business – Here are three of them.
First- Double the amount of business in 2015 that I had done in 2014.
-I’m happy to say that I more than doubled my business! I’m thrilled and frankly shocked! And so very thankful!
Second– Increase my public presence
-Making the decision to have a show at a local coffee shop for the month of April terrified me! It was a huge financial expense for me and it was just so scary to put myself out there in such a public way! 😯 But I’m very glad I pushed through the walls of fear and doubt and did it. I am still reaping the benefits that exposure gave me. I have sold pictures and booked clients I would not have if I hadn’t done the show
-Opened my studio in August – While I didn’t have this as a specific goal for the year when the opportunity came along it fit so perfectly into my goal of having a more public presence I couldn’t say no. I am thrilled with my little space and it has been the direct cause of business and definitely exposure into the community.
-I participated in art shows and joined a local networking community.
-Blogging – I have read over and over again how important blogging is to a business. So I made the commitment to blog 3 days a week. Which is a huge undertaking… I really don’t know how many people read but I keep blogging away 😉
Third- Have a professional website
-This fits in with the public presence goal for the year
-This was a big financial step for me. I was intimidated by the entire process and kept putting it off. But once I finally took the first steps I was relieved by how well it all went. I’ve been very happy to have my own website.
Fourth– Learn!!
-This will always be on my list of goals – I strive to learn every day. Specifically, I am always taking online classes, reading, self teaching, practicing
-Participated and completed Project 365 – I did this specifically because I believed it would help my develop my photography skills.
To be honest as I look into 2016 I am struggling with my goals. I’m scared what if things don’t continue to grow? What if I can’t accomplish what I want to accomplish? What if I fail? 😯
I remind myself that last year in January I stood at the threshold of 2015 and I had no idea what the year held for me. It is normal to not know, I can’t know, I just have to take it one day at a time…
