Studio Sessions
Once upon a time I said I would never want to be a photographer who did studio sessions. Have you ever said something with full conviction only to find yourself change your mind? I would specialize in natural light only and not mess with all the scary details of studio sessions. I fully believed it.
Now that I have been a full time professional photographer for 11 years I have learned a thing or two. While being outside with natural light and working with the outdoors will always be my first love. I have fully embraced studio sessions as well. Living and working in the PNW there is no question that having a studio is a major benefit!!
Honestly, I had two reasons for my earlier beliefs.
- I didn’t have a studio and couldn’t see a path to being able to ever afford one.
- Studio lighting and posing were SCARY to me! I didn’t have a clue about any of it.
One of the reasons I enjoy photography so much is that it challenges me. It challenges me with grumpy dads, bashful 3 year olds, self conscious teens and energetic toddlers. Technical computer and camera issues, distractions in the background, lighting and of course weather to name a few.
Over the years I have learned how to navigate these things and I’m proud of that knowledge and experience.
Shockingly, I have been blessed with 3 studio opportunities over the years. The doors have opened and I have chosen to walk through. My first studio space was tiny and could only accommodate headshots. I almost said no to the opportunity. But I decided to be brave and in that space I learned some of the foundations that I would need in the future.
Studio Benefits
Today I use my studio in a variety of ways. The most common is for professional head shots and branding sessions. My studio is large enough that I can set up multiple backgrounds so we can easily move from one to the other. This saves a lot of time for the professionals that come to me for their images.
Cake smashes, gender reveals, family sessions, pet sessions and even senior sessions have all taken place in my studio. The benefits of studio sessions are,
- No need to worry about the weather
- Controlled lighting
- Any time of day (don’t have to worry about scheduling at such specific times to allow for the best outdoor light).
Holiday Mini Studio Sessions
Recently I hosted holiday mini sessions here at the studio. Not only is the inside of my studio amazing the outside is pretty cool as well. So naturally I wanted to use both for these mini sessions.
Thanks for stopping by!
