New Year New Adventures – Shelly Fry Photography

What I’m Doing – Looking for Adventure

I love the word Adventure. Regardless of how Webster may define it, I define it as ; unplanned, unexpected, a touch challenging and totally captivating.

I like to accept a challenge. Of course I have my limits. There are some adventures (bungee jumping, sky diving, eating gross things, snow camping) that I’m just not going to be talked into. However, I do like to be spontaneous and adventurous. I like to stretch my comfort zone. With 2020 I plan to keep my eyes open for the unexpected, the unplanned adventure. I want to say yes to those things I may have previously said no to. I want to say yes even when the voices inside my head are strongly cautioning me against it. With in reason of course.

Dog Mountain

This attitude applies to every area of my life from personal to professional. I plan to embrace the adventures 2020 has to offer.

Christmas with the Fry’s

Among all of our Christmas activities we squeezed in some wedding agenda items.  Josh now has his suit, shirt, shoes and belt for his big day. While perhaps not as exciting as wedding dress shopping this Mom did tear up seeing her son in his wedding suit!  In addition, wedding invites and a blog have been designed!

We had a lovely Christmas! For 10 nights we had family staying under our roof. We shared meals, played games, finished puzzles, laughed, watched movies and enjoyed all things Christmasy! My heart is overflowing with gratitude! We missed Ty tremendously, and I dread the Christmas both of my kids are elsewhere, but we did have a lovely Christmas.

Adventure

Probably the house guest who got the most attention was sweet Nora. She got to surprise her Great-Great Grandma the day after Christmas. Lucy was very put out by all of the attention Nora was getting. Even though Lucy was jealous, she was really sweet and gentle with Nora. But man did she want Nora’s giraffe Sophie for her own chew toy!

All too quickly the Christmas cookies are eaten, the packages are opened, family has gone home and the decorations come down.   It’s a challenge to not let that get you down!

What I’m Photographing

Just lots and lots of phone shots. I haven’t even picked up my DSLR since the engagement session. If you missed that check out this blog to see some of Joshua and Jocelyn’s engagement pictures https://shellyfryphotography.com/my-everyday/smith-rock-engagement-shelly-fry-photography

I am looking forward to a senior session this month.

Last year I was hired by an East Coast company to photograph a local artist for their website. I had forgotten all about it until I recently stumbled across the website and saw my images. Click here to see the images https://blog.turningart.com/in-studio/kellyneidig

What I’m Reading

The Hypnotists Love Story – Liane Moriarty

I have read other books by this author and really enjoyed them.
This one was mildly entertaining. The bottom line for me was I just didn’t see why on earth she fell for the guy!
Then I thought something really intense was building up but nope…
It was OK but I feel like the author really missed an opportunity to develop a real page turner.
The book focuses on new love and the complications that come along when one of them has a stalker. Trust me it’s not as exciting as it sounds.

The Giver of Stars – Jojo Moyes

In last week’s blog I reviewed another Jojo Moyes book – The Girl you left Behind.  I absolutely loved that book so I have very high expectations with this book! The Giver of Stars is this months Book Club pick. I am just beginning the book this week.

Goal check –

New Year stimulates New Beginnings. I like to write a list of goals each year. I don’t like new years RESOLUTIONS, I prefer to write out goals for the new year. The fact is I am far more successf_ul accomplishing goals rather than resolutions.

Usually, I would have my list of goals all ready to go at this point. This year, I have decided it’s ok to give myself a break. If it takes me an extra week or two to come up with my list it’s not the end of the world!

With my physical limitations right now I find myself getting very frustrated and discouraged. Today is the day I’m to begin wearing shoes (as tolerable). I’m so anxious to slap on my hiking boots and disappear on a long trail for the day! Or tug on my climbing shoes and spend a couple hours clinging to a wall. Or sliding into my cycling shoes and spending a couple of hours spinning away on my bike. But my reality is that I have to feel good about the half mile walks as I race the slugs on the sidewalks…

Ugh Patience is the worst!

My Current Favorite

I’m thrilled to have made it to the one month post surgery mark. While it’s painful the fact that I’m a month down the road is an accomplishment!  I am one third of the way to where I’ve been told I will be at full recovery and I cannot wait to get there! today I’m to begin to wear a shoe. I’ve tried and I can’t but I will keep trying…

So here is to a new year, a new decade full of adventures, opportunities and all we can make of it!

Shelly

PS – Found a dead mouse in my kitchen this morning.  Which completely shoved me out of my comfort zone. Not the kind of adventure I was looking for…

Spread the love
