Me/On the floor

Me

So apparently each and every month there will be a “selfie” prompt…
Yep, the above picture is {me} and it is 100% staged… Can you tell?

I took close to 30 pictures of {me} to get one I could tolerate…
It is a good exercise in paying attention to details and it is a literal exercise because I am running back and forth from the camera to the chair and then trying very hard not to look like I’m anything but serene…

I began with the basics~
  • I had to set the scene – where should I take the picture, what should be in it?
    • This evolved for me – initially I was not in that chair and the flowers were not in the frame – and I was keeping my face out of it.
  • I had to set up the camera, tripod and timer – what angle? What aperture? Where should the focus fall? (tricky since I’m not in the frame when I have to focus!)
    • Very tricky on the focus! When no one is there to set the focus on you have to chose and item – like the mug, flowers or in this case the back of the chair…
After the initial set up I then took picture after picture (running back and forth each time) noticing different things I didn’t like – most notably my hands – I had to make a conscious effort to look relaxed! In one shot you could see I had an absolute death grip on the pen!

All I can see in this one are the veins in my hand and my dying daffodils!
I liked this one OK – I had the focus on the flowers but I still thought my fingers looked weird on the mug…
It does make {me} the photographer more aware of how my clients may feel in front of my camera and where I should look for areas of tension while I am photographing them.
Plus it’s a good exercise program! 🙂

On The Floor

I actually found myself thinking about this prompt during the night…
Because {on the floor} at my house is dust, crumbs, and various other things I really have no desire to take a picture of!
I did briefly entertain the idea of coming up with a large dust bunny (fairly confident I could find one around here) but then I found what I thought would be the answer somewhere in the darkness of my night…
I would go outside and take a picture of a forest {floor)!

But as you can see that didn’t happen either…
Before I had a chance to go outside I saw Miss Ella enjoying a patch of sunlight {on the floor}

Wise Words from Emily Dickinson – “The soul should always stand ajar. Ready to welcome the ecstatic experience.”

Be open to new things!
