Images – “A representation of an external form of a person”. When I talk to my clients about their galleries what used to be referred to as pictures or negatives is now referred to as “images”. Some of us don’t feel really great about our external form. I’m included in that group for sure! But what I’ve learned is that we are so much more critical of ourselves than anyone else is. Our eyes zoom right to those areas we don’t like. We feel like it’s all anyone else sees. They don’t. They see your smile, your eyes, your warm personality. They notice your warmth, energy, laugh, sense of humor, unique way of dressing perhaps. They notice all the wonderful things that make you uniquely and wonderfully you!
This week one of my Senior clients looked at an image that I had taken of him and he said “that doesn’t look like me”. The image he was referring to was really good (if I don’t say so myself). His mom said it gave her goosebumps and that it absolutely looked like him. I certainly thought it looked like him. But it was unfamiliar to him.
It made me think. While there will always be angles we don’t normally see of ourselves, we could each work at being kinder about our image. We are all beautiful!
Images of Spring
Did you feel it? Do you see it? Oh my goodness things are about to pop all over the place! I have my eye on several places with beautiful blooms! They don’t last long so if you’ve considered a Spring session now is the time to contact me! Tuesday’s weather was amazing! As I stood outside waiting for my Senior Session I said “how can 66 feel so hot?” The Spring thaw is upon us and I am so ready!
My phone is definitely ringing more. It’s a nice blend of last minute 2022 graduates and those looking forward to graduating in 2023. Along with the Seniors I am also getting calls about family sessions. April is filling up with people with those bookings.
One question I often get is “what do we do if it rains?” It’s a fair question given where we live. I can honestly say “It will work out! It always does!” That may sound flippant, but I don’t mean it that way. My point is that I watch the weather closely. Within a couple days of your shoot if the weather looks overly wet I will reach out to you and we will discuss options. Those options may be moving it a day or two depending on weather and availability. Some choose to go for it accepting that we live in the PNW. There are several great outdoor locations that offer some protection from the elements as well as my studio.
Did you know the Spring colors really pop when they are wet from the rain? Also umbrellas and rain boots are super cute!
Images – Caleb Class of 2022
I just met Caleb this week. I always enjoy getting to know the Seniors I work with during their shoot. Caleb’s mom mentioned that he would have his violin with him for some of his Senior portraits. As I spoke with Caleb I learned that he has plans to be a professional musician. Which is very impressive to me.
During his session there were times I asked him to play. As he played I worked to shoot different angles. I felt horrible asking him to stop when I was done. I loved being serenaded as I worked!
A bonus was Caleb’s session was this last Tuesday our first really warm day this year! What a blessing it was to be working outside on such a gorgeous day!
You can hear Caleb play if you attend a Portland Youth Philharmonic concert!
