Grad Sessions 2023 – Shelly Fry Photography

Grad Sessions 2023

Hello! Here we are at the end of August and it’s all about back to school! I hope you had a wonderful Summer. I thought I would take a minute today and explain why photographers like myself experience such a rush of business at this time of year.

  1. We live in the PNW and Fall is stunning here! Many people enjoy the cooler temperatures and gorgeous colors. Fall is the number one time for both Senior and Family Sessions.
  2. The weather!
  3. Senior Sessions or Grad Sessions are always popular in the Fall for another reason. In our area the high school yearbook deadlines are generally the end of October and the very first of November. What that means is that if you are submitting a photo of your Graduate it needs to be done by late October.  Note: We have several high schools in the area and they all seem to have a different deadline. Check with your school today to see when it is,
  4. We often let Summer slip away and then one day wake up and realize there are only a few days left to get ready for the school year – which can result in lots of last minute Fall bookings.

Grad Sessions 2023

Here are some important things your photographer would like you to know.

  1. Getting booked is great but you also have to plan for time on the backside. Taking the pictures is only the beginning. Then there needs to be time to edit and deliver the photos back to you.
  2. The days are getting shorter. In the middle of Summer sessions can start as late as 7:30. This week I’m beginning some sessions at 6:30 and that will continue to get earlier and earlier as our days quickly grow shorter.
  3. Weekend bookings – These spots are very limited.
  4. Once Seniors begin school scheduling can get more challenging.
  5. If you miss Fall season there are some additional fun options for you.
    1.  Winter/Snow Sessions – We live next to some amazing mountains and a session like this can be lots of fun and unique.
    2. Spring Sessions – Next to Fall this is my most popular time of the year. Scheduling can be more challenging simply because of the weather. It tends to be cooler and wetter…. However Spring in the PNW is gorgeous!
    3.  Studio Session – I have a large beautiful studio that I use year round. While these sessions are shorter and look very different than an outdoor session they are still lots of fun and result in beautiful Senior galleries.

Locations for Grad Sessions

There are many, many options. One of the things I love about working in this area is the variety of backgrounds we all have to choose from! While there are those classic favorites there is always opportunity for new and unique locations! Here is a blog post from a couple years ago where I highlight some of my favorite locations. Each location offers a huge variety which keeps things fresh and interesting. We are very excited about our son’s upcoming wedding! In just a few short weeks we will all be in So Cal celebrating!
