Happy Mother’s Day
I hope you all had a lovely weekend and for those of you who are Mom’s…. have Mom’s…. know Mom’s, I hope you had a lovely Mother’s Day Weekend.
I am blessed to live near my Mom, my Mother-in-law and my Grandmother-in-law – aka Grammy. When my boys were little right up until they moved away they would join forces with their dad in the kitchen and make me a Mother’s Day breakfast. I was ordered to stay in bed and wait with a magazine purchased that morning for me. My little guys would come into the room with a menu for me to choose from. First came the drink menu – did I want a chai, orange juice or water? Then did I want toast, muffins, or croissants etc.? It was so cute! With the exception of feeling weirdly sequestered in my room, it was so fun seeing what the boys would put together for me…. always remembering my favorite breakfast foods.
Well, the boys are men now but they each remembered me and we had great conversations. I’m very thankful to be a Mom.
Call Back List
So as our State begins to open up I am anticipating being able to begin working again in June. While I realize, like you do, that the future is very uncertain right now which makes it very difficult to make firm plans at this time.
Fall Sessions are always wildly popular and my calendar gets fuller each year. Fall is when I have a lot of Seniors (hello class of 2021) and Family sessions. I anticipate an even busier Fall this year because of all of the missed Spring Sessions.
Fall Sessions Begin the first of September and run through November. Because of the unpredictability of our times it may be difficult for you to commit to a specific date. So I would like to offer to you the option of putting your name on a call back list. We can choose your ideal date if you’d like, or leave it open ended. Then when we know I can legally work again, I will reach out to you and we can finalize the booking process.
If this sounds like something you would like to do, simply reach out to me via my email info@shellyfryphotography.com or call or text me at 360-798-2983. There is no deposit required to be placed on the call back list. You will be the first people I reach out to once things open up.
If you want to check out my portfolios or pricing scroll up to the top of the blog and click on the links to check things out.
What I’m NOT Photographing this year – Mother’s Day 2019
This was one of my favorite sessions last year. The Camas Lilies on Mother’s Day. It was a magical field full of lilies with the nicest family and the weather was perfect! Jeff and I rode our bikes out in Camas this past weekend and the lilies were blooming. I look forward to the opportunity to photograph there again next year.
My heart hurts a bit as I see all of the cherry blossoms fade and feel the loss of those opportunities. But the good news is that Spring will be back next year!
What I’m Reading
Bowlaway by Elizabeth McCracken
I am struggling through this book. I just don’t like the writing style. It is way too descriptive and some of the descriptions don’t even make sense to me! “she looked like a woman eating at midnight”? Is that a common thing? Should that bring up a specific image in my mind? The story line in this book wanders all over the place. The story is centered around a bowling alley in Massachusetts and the mysterious woman who owns it as well as a dizzying array of characters that flit in and out. It has elements that keep me hoping it will get interesting and then it veers off and I’m lost again. I can see that there is real potential in the story for an interesting book. To me it seems the author is more interested in trying to think of the most unique way to describe every detail than tell the story… 1 star

I LOVE it when people offer book recommendations! My sweet friend Kelli read this and thought of me and dropped it off on my porch! I am pushing my way through Bowlaway so I can get to it!
Wedding Update
Yes, there will be a wedding. No, you are no longer invited 🙁
As Covid has reshaped what we thought the wedding day would look like our hearts are sad and glad. We are very disappointed that we can’t celebrate it surrounded by friends. This is just heartbreaking and I guess emphasizes the value of photography! The only way to share the day will be through pictures.
We are thankful that Josh and Jocelyn will still be able to be married surrounded by family. We love Jocelyn and are very excited to officially add her to the Fry family. They have been living apart. Jocelyn in Bend and Josh in Boise. They are looking forward to the time they no longer have so many long drives between them.
We have all lost so much. It seems like every day I hear of people who were to fly off to a vacation or celebrate a graduation, birthday, wedding all to be canceled. It is challenging to re-frame plans and events that we all were so excited for. I think that is the worst part. We are already feeling isolated and lonely and now the very things that would cure that are not allowed.
The Bright Side
We are healthy
We have everything we need
Our yard has never looked better! Our garden has never been planted this early and as a result I picked fresh Kale from the garden for my smoothie this morning!
With Jeff’s lack of commute time he has even more time to work in the yard and the results are awesome (I help too just not with the wow factor stuff)!
We are getting lots of exercise and fresh air.
We are beginning to see our family and closest friends a bit more which just helps lift the heart!
Oregon’s photographers have gone back to work and I’m anticipating June for me. Fingers crossed.
We are getting closer to the end every day. Even if we don’t know where the end is.
