Getting out of my comfort zone

The most difficult part of running my own business is selling myself. It makes me SSOOOOOOOOO uncomfortable  😯  Unfortunately it is a necessity that I have to deal with. What that means is, I’m often putting myself into situations that make me uncomfortable and last night was one of those times.

Last night I participated in Battle Ground High School’s job fair.  Since I went to a tiny Christian high school and have only taught in tiny schools I will admit large public schools freak me out  🙄 So one of the reasons I said yes to going was I needed to break that barrier down in my head! And I’m glad I did! I met so many nice people and really enjoyed my experience. While I’m not hiring I was able to make connections with people in need of professional head shots for resume’s or websites and of course students who will need Senior pictures very soon. I have no idea if any actually bookings will result from last night but I still feel the benefits of attending  😀

The week before I was asked last minute to come photograph a Volunteer Dinner for Battle Ground Health Care. This organization is doing amazing work by providing free healthcare and dental services to those in need. Click on the link to learn more and possibly support a very worthy cause! Regardless of how awesome they all are to be completely honest I wasn’t really excited about doing it.  Photographing a room of people sitting around trying to eat their dinners in low light is not my ideal photographic situation. But again I’m glad I said yes because the results were -A)Meeting some really nice people and spending time with many I already knew and B) bonus I booked several more jobs in the future.  😆

So my point is – Getting out of my comfort zone is uncomfortable for a minute but it always pays off for me. Even if nothing concrete results it feels great pushing through those fear walls and knowing you are stronger and better experienced as a result!

So go out there and push over a wall or two of your own!  😛

My Drink of ChoiceDSC_5562

I needed to branch out with this prompt {my drink of choice} I am so BORING when it comes to what I drink! 99% of the time it is water and chai. Seriously how dull is that?! But thankfully I was saved from my boring life because on this night it was Book Club night and Judy is the hostess with the mostess and I knew there would be lovely drink as well as food to go with our evening! I LOVE these jar glasses! How cute are those!

Yesterday was CRAZY  😯 And I had no time for {sprinkles} but darn it I am determined to stick with this project so here is how this picture came about. For my booth at Battle Ground High School I needed balloons so I already had to run by the dollar store. So after grabbing my six helium filled balloons and various other goodies I ran next door to Safeway, hands already full and balloons trailing behind me. I ran a complete circuit around the store because I couldn’t find the bakery but as I was walk/jogging through the store I thought to myself that a great activity would be to tell someone they had to carry a bouquet of balloons with them the entire day. Next time you have the opportunity to win or bet or plan a party I think this would be fun! You’re welcome!

I then had to run by my studio to grab some items so I grabbed my newly purchased cup cake and brought it into my office. Once I opened its carrying case the little confetti ducks and bunnies exploded all over me 👿  But as I mentioned I’m determined. I took the quick picture threw the cupcake back in the container and headed out the door. Sometimes that is how a picture happens. Some people take great care and planning – not me – not that day! And yes I did eventually get around to eating some of it! (I had to share with hubby!)  😉

Have you noticed the roadside daffodils? I love them!! Take time to enjoy the flowers!
