Buying Local

Wooden

I have to confess I never really thought about the value of buying local…

Growing up no one I knew owned a business. I lived in small towns or suburbs. I never thought twice about driving out of my neighborhood into the big city in search of food, goods, entertainment.  That is just what we did.

When I was a teenager I lived right here in Battle Ground. We often ventured to Hazel Dell, Orchards and the BIG city of Portland whenever we wanted variety.  The local options of Burgerville, Rocky’s or greasy Jojo’s from Dollars Corner were the only options in town (the only ones I remember).

My town as well as my perspective has changed over time. Before starting my own business I began appreciating some of the local offerings. To be honest it was more out of convenience than from loyalty. I had been driving all the way to downtown PDX for Thai food before I finally discovered BG had some yummy offerings much closer to home! I still lacked the awareness of how much it can mean to a small business to have the support of its community.

Now that I have my own business with my own little space in town I finally get it! I loved filling my space with items found in my small town like my gorgeous handmade {wooden} table that I found at the adorable Posh & Tattered just down the street. I have met many lovely store owners and some of them have just blown me away with their encouragement and support. I am thrilled to be part of this small town! 🙂

So if you live here in Battle Ground or some other little town take a minute and check out what they have to offer and buy local 😀

Just a little north of our lovely town is a lovely pumpkin farm.  Pomeroy Farm has lovely pumpkin people every Autumn {season} to welcome you and keep you entertained as you bump along on the hay ride  😉 On my dream list is the dream of one day being a pumpkin farmer. How fun would that be! I admit I’m envious of people who have figured out how to make a living in this way!  But I still have the joy of growing some pumpkins in my backyard 😛
