Summer in the NW – Shelly Fry Photography

What Am I Doing – Enjoying Summer in the NW

Yes, I know for many of you it has not been hot enough this Summer. I will admit these days when the clouds hang on all day are getting old, but I’m not a hot weather person so I’m not missing that! Summers in the NW are often unpredictable and keep us guessing! I would like to point out that the weather has been IDEAL for photo shoots! Not too hot, not too cold and dry! Which is very appealing in a Goldie Locks sort of way!

Today Josh is coming home! Unfortunately, Tyler flies off to Guatemala a few hours later. It is so rare to have the entire family together anymore! When it does happen it is brief! If I’m lucky I think I will have both of my sons with me for about an hour today! As the mother of two adults I will take what I can get!

Steve the Beav – He’s back…

Yesterday I noticed something out in the pond and grabbed the binoculars. He’s baaaack or maybe he never left and he’s really good at hiding? Either way as long as he stays away from our trees I’m fine with it! There are plenty of trees to choose from and so far he is leaving ours alone.

What Am I Reading – “Killing Lincoln”

I think you need to be a bit of a history nerd to really enjoy this book. Fortunately for me I am!

I have studied quite a bit about the Civil War. While in WA DC I’ve toured the Ford theater where the assassination took place and the museum which has many interesting artifacts like the pillow Lincoln was using when he died, blood stains and all. I have toured many CW battle fields and sat through countless lectures.

What I love about this book is how all of the interesting connections and relationships are brought out. Not only do you see each character’s point of view but you understand where everyone is at the same time. While Lincoln is here, this is where Booth is as well as Grant and Lee. You also learn what they are each doing at the same time.  For whatever reason I am fascinated by that. Perhaps it’s because all of those drab history textbooks I’ve read over the years just didn’t present the events in such an interesting light.

Goal Check –

I have to say I’m proud of myself at this point in the year. We are more than halfway and I have blogged each week. I will be publishing my 5th Newsletter in August and I had my best June in terms of bookings and sales and I have also already hit a record for July! I am very thankful!

Having written that so easily I’m reminded of all the actual work that goes behind each of those sentences. It has not been easy. I am constantly plagued by doubt and insecurities and some times I frankly just don’t feel like doing it!  That is the life of a business owner I guess. I’m thankful for the words of encouragement that come my way and I do see growth which is very encouraging! I’m so very thankful for everyone who supports me!

My {Current} Favorite Thing – Sweet Peas!

Things are getting very exciting in my garden! I have eaten a handful of cherry tomatoes and we ate our first big tomato!!! But the best part right now are the sweet peas! They are so yummy, they don’t even make it into the house! I just eat them as quickly as I pick them.

What Am I Photographing –

I was on vacation last week so it was all about scenery shots. This week I had the opportunity to photograph Kelly Neidig. She is a local artist who has the coolest little studio in Vancouver. A company in Boston contacted me and asked if I would photograph her for the website, Turning Art. You can click here to check out their blog https://blog.turningart.com/in-studio

Kelly will be featured on their blog next month and she needed to be photographed. I really enjoyed meeting Kelly and checking out her vibrant work! Unfortunately she had a nasty fall down a flight of stairs and her left eye and check were badly swollen and bruised. Regardless, Kelly was confident and vibrant in front of my camera and the pictures turned out great!  If you are looking for some cool art for your walls you can check out her website here https://www.kellyneidig.com/

Heads Up – August

I will not be booking any shoots for the month of August. I am currently booking dates in September and October.  If you are planning on a fall family session this year I strongly encourage you to contact me asap so we can get your dates on the books. Especially if you need a Sunday date. As of today I have 5 Sundays available for those two months. I have more availability if week days are an option for you.

It’s crazy to be talking about Fall already but those of us who plan have to look ahead.

As always friends, I appreciate you stopping by!

Shelly
