Quick Trip to So Cal
Last Thursday I flew down to LAX for a very special engagement session. My son Tyler’s fiancé Kim lives in Southern California. They decided they would like their formal engagement portraits taken down there. Since I’m always happy to travel I was more than happy to hop on a plane and head south!
Besides the engagement session I have a friend I hadn’t seen in years who lives right where I needed to be. I was able to stay with her and do some much needed catching up! My son and wife who live a few hours away even drove over for an afternoon for a visit! I was able to pack a lot in while I was down there, including a quick tour of their wedding venue! It was a weekend full of family and friends, Santa Ana winds and lots of sunshine!
Ty and Kim So Cal Engagement
I pride myself in knowing a large variety of locations for my clients. If you want urban, country, beaches, woods, unique backgrounds you name it I can deliver it for you. I am always on the lookout for new locations and spend a lot of time scouting and exploring.
It had been over 7 years since my last visit to So Cal. I had no idea where we would shoot. Thankfully Jolene and Kim are locals and they had lots of ideas.
In addition to locations, we also had full bright sunshine, as well as Santa Ana winds! Those winds were no joke! Thankfully they were gusty and not a constant wind.
We used 3 different locations and for the most part we were able to hide or avoid the wind.
Besides the wind and not knowing the area I had one other “issue” to deal with. These two are over a foot difference in height! In order to not have Kim down near his belly button or him hunched over all the time I kept my creative energy flowing. More often than not my couples are close to the same height so I’m always getting the guy to stand up straight or uphill. That was not the case with these two!
Ty and Kim are so happy and smiley! Kim’s megawatt smile lights up a room and by the way, those white teeth are all her! I didn’t whiten them at all! However, for some reason I thought it would be fun to get some serious shots…. Which was hilarious because Kim just couldn’t do it! Ty, not a problem 🙂 So we just gave up on Kim being serious!
It has been so meaningful to me to be able to photograph both of my sons for their engagement sessions. Of course I won’t be doing the wedding, but to have this opportunity and to see my son in love with someone who clearly loves him right back is so special. I am so thankful for these opportunities!
We did a quick engagement session back when Ty proposed up in the PNW in November. If you’d like to see those click here https://shellyfryphotography.com/my-everyday/happy-december-shelly-fry-photography
