Cake Smash – Shelly Fry Photography

I love getting calls from parents wanting to schedule a cake smash for their little ones. It’s always so much fun to help a family celebrate this exciting milestone! I’m still dreaming of the day I get to do a cake smash for an older person. Say someone turning 90 or 100? How fun would that be?!

Cake Smash

Some of you may not be familiar with what a cake smash photo shoot is.  Each session can vary in several ways but the common denominator is at some point you leave a soon to be or recently turned 1 year old alone with a cake. My job is to capture what happens next.

Kids are all different! I have had little one who dive right in. I have had some who want nothing to do with the cake as well as all the variations in between.

Cake Smash sessions include photos before the cake is presented to the little one. While I have backdrops and props available parents choose the theme and provide the cake (or cupcake). While we work together to create the set and how the session will go every session is unique. It is the little ones who determine what happens next.

It’s fun to work with a one year old in front of the camera. Their curiosity along with their fantastic facial expressions are so fun!  I spend sometime capturing their beautiful eyes and pudgy limbs as well as the overall setting. Once we have those photos we transition into the “cake smash” portion of the session.

We literally set the cake down in front of them and just wait. Wait and see what will happen. Sometimes parents like to help cautious little one get into their cakes and then there are those who dive right in! Either way you will love the images!

Do you know of anyone having a milestone birthday in 2025? I would love to help you celebrate with a cake smash session here at the studio!

Let’s chat.

Thanks for stopping by,

Shelly
