Beautiful Winter Photos- Shelly Fry Photography

Here are some tips for beautiful Winter photos. Sometimes we aren’t able to schedule things exactly as we hoped. This past week I received a phone call asking if there was any way possible for me to squeeze in a Graduate session. The call came in Sunday afternoon and they needed the edited images by Wednesday!!

How exciting! I love a challenge. We would need to find a time that worked with both of us and I would need the time to get them edited and delivered by Tuesday.  They wanted a 30 min mini session. The only time I had available was the very next morning.

Next question where? They weren’t sure. Other than wanting water and big trees in the backgrounds they didn’t have a specific place in mind. I spent some time sending them different locations to consider and we settled on Round Lake in Camas.

I checked the weather and it said partly sunny and dry at the time of our shoot. But I worried this cloud bank we’ve been living in for the past week wouldn’t burn off.

Beautiful Winter Photos

In general most of my clients avoid outdoor winter photo sessions. However, this is not my first January Grad session. Sometimes, January is when it works best for you. If that’s you, I’m here for you!  I’ve had some really fun opportunities working with graduates during the grey cold months here in the PNW.

As I suspected, the clouds did not part. The water of the lake made a fantastic reflector for lighting and some really cool reflections. Thankfully I came prepared and had  grabbed my off camera flash. I wanted to make sure I could light Jude’s face really well and still capture the magic behind him. Without the flash Jude’s face would have been too dark.

If you or someone you know is graduating in 2025 it is not too late to grab some stunning portraits. I am hear to help you plan the when, where and how of every session. I’d love to chat with you!

Thanks for stopping by,

Shelly
