40/365
I have been a journal writer since high school. Not consistently, but off and on. Sometimes I can lose myself for hours reading the musings of my teenage self…my 20 something self, my 30 something self, and now my 40 something self…
My first journals were calendars. I would simply write about that day, whatever I could cram into the box for that day…I began in January of my Junior year. I have the day I met Jeff on that calendar 🙂 I love that…
My first proper journal began in 1987 when I was Shelly Ritz…
And yes I spelled “journal” wrong…
The very first page is about Jeff breaking up with me and my heart-broken self and how I was sure I just lost the best thing that was ever going to happen to me…
Happily the majority of the {writing} in this journal is about our engagement and the days leading up to our wedding…a happy ending 🙂
I also keep travel journals. I am so happy that I have done that. I remember the first journal I bought for my very first trip to Europe. I was sure I would never fill it up, assuming that trip would be my only opportunity to go wandering with my passport. Happily, I have filled one and I’m working on a second.
I also like {writing} down quotes, inspiring words, that I come across. I like having them in one place where I can look them up and be inspired at any time.
Today’s inspiration:
“Our beliefs can move us forward in life – or they can hold us back.”

I'm glad you owned up to the chaos of your teenage bedroom because I was going to have to comment on it if you hadn't. My compromise with you was that you would clean it one day a week on Friday that way it didn't get to chaotic 🙂
