Grads and Elopements – Shelly Fry Photography

  Happy Thursday friends!

I hope your week is going well. This week will be short and sweet. This week was about Grads and Elopements. I have two shoots to share with you.

MacKenzie – Class of 2021

This was a super fun session! As I discussed possible locations with MacKenzie her face lit up when we talked about urban areas and I showed her some examples. The obvious choice after discussing and looking at options was downtown Vancouver. We had fun exploring during the shoot.  I think I love shooting in downtown Vancouver almost as much as I do across the river in PDX.

MacKenzie did an awesome job of just relaxing and enjoying the experience.

One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is working with you on location ideas. I work hard at exploring so I can offer a variety of suggestions based on your interests and likes. I am always looking for new places to shoot and have a long list of places I’m dying to use in future sessions.

When a location is chosen, it is one I have already scouted and know well. We may suddenly turn behind a building which leads to a hidden alley or stairway. I know of lots of hidden gems and I love sharing them! Whether you like urban, country, waterfalls, mountains, fields, wildflowers, beaches, you name it and we will find the perfect place for you!

When an Engagement Session is really an Elopement!

I think one of the best things in life are surprises. For me it’s super fun to be part of such an exciting surprise.  When Alecks texted me Monday night I had no idea we would be shooting an elopement Saturday afternoon.  But that is what it turned into as we continued to text and talk during the week.  This was a very last minute, “can we make this work “(?), idea and the answer was YES!

The one thing I was worried about (as always) was the weather. After some research I used my knowledge of hiking areas, view points and accessibility and a location was chosen. What I could not control was the weather. Would there even be a view? Would it be raining sideways? Forecast 90% chance of rain. That didn’t scare Alecks or Daniel and at the appointed time we arrived for a very special occasion. There was some rain but the bride came prepared with clear umbrellas and we had so much fun.

The location is the Jane Russell Overlook which is on the Cape Horn Trail. It is a stunning location for photographs! I love everything from the tree lane, to the open field, gorgeous forest and of course the overlook. Soon the wildflowers will be blooming up there. It’s just a gorgeous area and you can drive right to it! A 10 min walk through a forest dripping in moss and old gorgeous trees and you are at the overlook.

We also had some really long breaks in the rain and we even had a view of the Gorge! It all worked out! It always does!

Hats off to these two who planned and pulled off a very sweet elopement in less than a week!

This is my second elopement this year. Click here if you’d like to see the previous one https://shellyfryphotography.com/my-everyday/skamania-lodge-elopement-shelly-fry-photography

Congratulations to this very happy couple!

BIG NEWS – Owen James is here!!

Grads and Elope,ents

Our family is so excited about our newest addition. My niece gave birth to a son last week making Nora a big sister.  We are thrilled that we get the chance to meet Owen and see the rest of the family this weekend.

Have you tried them?

Jeff and I have visited Boise a few times since Josh moved there a few years ago. Josh introduced us to a fabulous place that just sells freshly baked gigantic cookies. Cookies and donuts are my kryptonite. I have fluctuated between frustration that we have no such cookie store in our area and a deep sense of relief…

Well our time has arrived! After the elopement session Becky and headed to Crumbl which had just opened in Hazel Dell a few days earlier. There was a line but it moved quickly and it was 100% worth it!! So yummy! They are fun to follow on IG as well because they announce their new flavors each week and they post fun stories. Besides who doesn’t want to look at cookies? Here’s a link to the IG https://www.instagram.com/crumblcookies/
