Oh man friends these are uncertain times we are living in. After spending the last couple weeks laughing at Coronavirus or COVID19 meams on social media it is beginning to feel less funny.
I have struggled with what to write about on today’s blog. Normally I would have published my blog this morning. But things aren’t normal are they?
Stay Calm and Carry On –
I am not someone who get’s easily excited. I tend to run on the “calm down people!” side of things. And yes, I do still think some of us out there do need to calm down.
However, my perspective is a bit relaxed because I am not immune compromised. I do not have the underlying health issues that can make this virus deadly to so many.
I do have family I love very much that fall into those categories however.
I was determined not to buy toilet paper.
But then last night it felt a little like things were spiraling. As I listened to the news report that our President was closing the borders to those traveling in from Europe. As I heard the NBA cancelled the season. And then Tom Hanks and his wife Rita have tested positive!! Bam, bam, bam, the bombs kept dropping. My head was spinning a bit.
What is happening?
I spent the morning learning of additional cancellations as I sat addressing Wedding shower invitations with the news on. Schools, Disneyland, races, soccer.
Random Thoughts
My heart goes out to those with travel plans. I have lead out on many trips to Europe over Spring break. I have also had my own vacations plans over Spring break – I am thankful I do not have any this year and I’m very sorry for those who do.
Grammy – She will be 99 this June. She is still doing well and is a proud woman. She has a standing hair appointment which my Mother-in-law faithfully takes her to every week. Should we tell her she can’t go out?
Do we have enough toilet paper?
How long will this disrupt life? How far will it go? Do I have to worry about the wedding this Summer? Or my nephew’s wedding this May?
As we all face the questions that plague our minds and as we strive to find the balance between common sense and being prepared, it is difficult to know what to do.
PS – I bought toilet paper.
Making History
One thing is for sure. We are living in unprecedented times. This will be written about in future history text books and there will be a period at the end. We don’t know where this story is going but it will wrap up. Hopefully sooner than later.
When I look back on this time what I want to remember is –
- I continued to be kind to those around me
- I learned that it’s not just about me but those walking a different path than I
- It doesn’t hurt to be prepared
- There is no point in over-reacting
Turning Point-
It feels like we are reaching a turning point. A point where we are no longer just hearing about this virus but a point where it is affecting our everyday life.
Along with that come real concerns. How will this affect my business? Our income? Our future plans? Our retirement? Our health?
As a Christian I pray. I lean in hard to God during these times. They are always a reminder to me of just how small I am. My husband was out of work for a year awhile back. It was TERRIFYING. I cried almost every day that year. It was filled with so much uncertainty and fear. Now safely on the other side I see the lessons. I value the lessons. Do I want to go through that again? NO! But at least I learned.
So I am challenging myself to learn as we all share this experience in our own unique ways. For some with health issues this is far scarier. For those with travel plans this is disappointing and frustrating. For those who’s jobs/incomes are in jeopardy or more stressf_ul than ever my heart goes out to you.
Let’s just remember to be there for each other.
Hugs! (at a safe distance) 🙂
