They Did It!!!
Not only did we have a wedding we had a beautiful wedding day! What many people don’t know is that venue #2 canceled Monday!! Yes, the Monday before the wedding!!!
There was a plan A, B and finally C for the wedding shower
175 friends and family were invited to the wedding and then we had to un-invite 125 and then when allowed by Covid-19 rules re-invited 50
A couple of days after being allowed a total of 100 guests and re-inviting 50 people our original venue cancelled due to insurance and concerns over Covid-19.
A second venue was booked with just two weeks left before the wedding.
I received an email a month before the wedding saying we could no longer use the park or shelter we had reserved for the rehearsal dinner. We had a plan A, B and finally C for the rehearsal dinner.
Due to the generosity of friends we found a new place to stay for the weekend and were able to have the rehearsal dinner there. So we had a plan A and B for our lodging.
Less than a week before the wedding our 2nd venue (plan B) canceled on us. Our plan C and the final choice was booked the Tuesday prior to wedding day.
It all worked out – it always does
And in the end the wedding day came together beautifully! With the noted exception of those who could not join us due to Covid-19 restrictions.
Regardless of the stress leading up to the wedding the day was perfect!
It was beautiful, happy and really fun. Josh and Jocelyn were smiling from ear to ear all day and it was such a joyous occasion.
It just went by so darn fast!
Wedding days generally do go by fast. With all the planing and waiting and anticipation it is a shock to the system when you wake up the next morning and it is all a memory!
We are anxiously awaiting the professional wedding pictures as well as the video!
Last Week – the week leading up to wedding day
Our week leading up to the wedding was spent wondering if we were about to say goodbye to Grammy. We had been anticipating June 16th and her 99th birthday. I had been struggling as to
how to celebrate her birthday while she is in lock down. Turns out I didn’t get to see her at all on her birthday.
Sunday, prior to her birthday and one week before the wedding an ambulance was called to take her to the hospital. She wasn’t speaking clearly and was very confused. We were all concerned it was a stroke. Of course Jeff and I were out of town and by the time
we were able to get to her they had diagnosed her with pneumonia and were giving her antibiotics.
Jeff spent Sunday afternoon and all of Monday, Tuesday and most of Wednesday with her at the hospital. He was the only one allowed in, which was so frustrating to me. Her nurse learned that her birthday was Tuesday and brought her cupcakes and rounded up hospital staff to come in a sing to her. We really appreciated that!
The Dr. believes she also had a stroke. They decided against an MRI since they wouldn’t treat her any differently. She was tested for Covid-19 twice. Once as she arrived at the hospital and a second time on the day of her discharge.
This Week
I took her to the Dr. and her lungs have cleared up from the pneumonia. There is a shocking difference in her from before the wedding to now. Her memory is coming back and I see more and more of the former Grammy. Such a tremendous relief! We stopped for an ice cream cone on our way back from the Dr. We are profoundly grateful to see her personality returning. It was a really scary few days.
What I’m Photographing
I am happily finishing my last few sessions before my forced time off due to recovery. Last night I had a blast photographing Megan. Her property was surrounded by lush woods with a border of gorgeous fox gloves as well a daises. It’s always a bit nerve raking to show up to a home to do a shoot. I have no idea what the light will be like and what type of backgrounds I will have to work with. I was so excited to see the gorgeous wildflowers and the woods! We had perfect light and of course the gorgeous Megan to photograph! I was so happy and excited. I get so much energy while I’m photographing. Megan said within the first 5 min “This is so fun!” I love my job!
Family x 2
Tonight I have a family session and then Sunday I have my last family session until September. I am booking September dates and I’m thankful my Fall calendar is filling up. If you would like a Fall family or a Fall Senior session now is the time to reach out to me.
What I’m Reading – The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
The pause button has been hit regarding reading. It’s just been too crazy and I fall exhausted into bed each night. I anticipate lots and lots of time for reading in the weeks to come. If you have any recommendations please send them my way!
This is a book I remember hearing about years ago. It seemed everyone I knew was talking about this book and yet I never read it. I think I was confused by the title and wasn’t a big fan of bees so…
I have only just begun and I am really enjoying it. The book is set in South Carolina in 1964. The two primary characters are Lily a white 14 year old and Rosaleen, her “stand-in mother” a black woman her abusive father brought in from the peach orchards to help care for her when Lily’s mother was killed. Set in the deeply racist south at the height of the Civil Rights moment it seems I saved this book to read for the right time.
What I’m Doing
Cramming in life. I am doing my last shoots until fall. Getting all of my to dos done because next week my life comes to a screeching halt. I am scheduled for another toe joint surgery next Thursday. This one is a toe fusion since my December surgery did not have the outcome we hoped for. I am struggling with this decision. I want this over with and I want to walk pain free but having just gone through this I am not excited. The fusion surgery has a longer recovery and I have to be non weight bearing for 4 weeks and then very light walking (just around the house) with a boot for 4 more weeks. This sucks! Prayers for a successf_ul surgery and quick healing are appreciated!
There won’t be a blog next week. Thursday is surgery day. Wednesday is July 1st and SFP Newsletter will be sent out. If you aren’t on the mailing list and would like to sign up here is a link http://madmimi.com/signups/f92831e48f4c4758a38ad3779e2d9f9b/join

I’m glad you got to enjoy the wedding and had someone else do the photography, although yours is the Best! The bride and groom look soooo happy, but they were happy together before. The pictures captured the fun and happiness including the guests. Can’t tell you how many prayers went up for Grammy. So happy that she is OK, out of the hospital and eating ice cream. That’s the best cure for everything – ice cream. Lots of love, hugs and blessings for continued recovery Grammy. Your picture shoot with Megan is gorgeous! Am praying for complete recovery for your 2nd toe surgery that everything comes out perfectly. It sounds like a long recovery, but will be worth it to walk pain free. I feel for you cuz! Guess this will be a good time to sit outside, enjoy the sunshine, read and eat ice cream! Love you!
