Book Review – The Life and Times of Thunderbolt Kid – Bill Bryson

I'm currently reading Bill Bryson's book The Life and Times of Thunderbolt Kid which is his memoir. He was born in 1951 in Iowa and this book is all about it. Doesn't that sound oh so exciting!!! Haven't you ever wondered what Iowa was like in the 50s? Or better yet, have you ever wondered what Iowa was like in the 1950s as seen by a young boy?! As he paints his word pictures about life in middle America which includes baseball, pie and comic books he balances it off with the worries of nuclear annihilation, communism, polio, UFOs, Civil Rights [...]

Little Ones – Baron and Charlotte

As promised here are some of the pictures I took last week. These two Cuties were visiting from California and I'm so glad I had the opportunity to take their pictures! There were a few years different in ages so it made posing a bit tricky. But thankfully big brother was a good sport! He didn't complain about slobbery kisses or all the attention being focused on Miss Charlotte as we all attempted to get her to look at the camera and flash us a gorgeous smile  :-D Oh how I love this picture! Miss Charlotte is 6 months and [...]

A Man Called Ove

I'm so thankful to be part of a book club. We met this week and discussed Fredrik Backman's book. Winner of cutest dessert at book club! While  I did not host book club this week I did manage to leave my mark. My efforts to "help" led to a dessert spilled all over the inside of the fridge (my fault) a small kitchen fire (also my fault) and a dessert that while it was adorable wasn't the best tasting (kinda my fault) it was definitely the cutest and most thoughtfully designed dessert (I get no credit). But back to the [...]

March’s Book Reviews

I don't believe I would have picked up either of these books if friends hadn't handed them to me and said "here read this" I love that! Several months ago a friend gave me Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson. To put it mildly it was eye opening!  8-O  As I read it I knew it would be my book choice for book club and we discussed it just last week. First Bryan is an inspirational man that has taken on a herculean task! Here is a quote as the author describes meeting with THE Rosa Parks; “Rosa Parks turned to [...]

Spring Fever!!!!

Hi! I missed writing yesterday. I was busy crashing on my bike and preparing for my boys to come home!!!!!!!!!!!! Last night my home was full! :-D It feels amazing to go to bed knowing your kids are home with you and your family is back together again! Every time it happens I pay attention because I never know when the next time will be! This weather is amazing! The sun feels amazing! I took 45 min and simply sat in the sun yesterday and I highly recommend you find a way to do it as well! I was simply [...]

I have a love/hate relationship with learning! I love it unless it keeps falling out of my head and then it's just frustrating!!! :-( Or when I know I have a lot to learn and I'm just impatient with the process. Or if I have 500 steps to learn and I've forgotten step 49 and now nothing is working! I've worked and continue to work very hard at learning photography. The easy part for me is picking up my camera and pressing the shutter. But even that I have learned I can improve on. 8-) There are so many aspects [...]

So I found out who did or didn't do what to Theo in Kate Morton's new book The Lake House (not to be confused with the Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock movie) The book did an EXCELLENT job keeping me guessing but I would like to toot my horn and say I did figure it out right before it was revealed   And now it's time to begin a new book. I always try to read two or three books a month (its my therapy). I'm thankful to be part of a book club so I always have a new book [...]

We chose our focus!

Hello!  :-P Happy Monday everyone! I hope all is well in your world! I will be honest, I'm struggling with staying positive! This time of year is always a challenge! Anyone else with me on that? But I know enough that what I chose to focus on will either help me through the gloomy times or make them worse. So I chose sunny, hopeful thoughts today! Here's a quote from Luci Swindoll's book I Married Adventure Looking at Life Through the Lens of Possibility "Whether adventure takes us to our own backyard or to a distant continent, the spirit of [...]

How's life going? We are halfway through the first month of the new year... So how's it going? Did you win the lottery? Have you stuck with any resolutions so far? How's the fitbit working out for you? (I returned mine, apparently I was dead no heartbeat!)  :roll Have you developed any new habits? Are you reading any good books? I am currently devouring Kate Morton's new book The Lake House. I don't for the life of me know how on earth she keeps everything organized in her head! If you don't like stories that jump around in time periods [...]

What I do best?

{What I do best} - If you were to answer that question for yourself what would you say? Are you known for something that you are amazing at? Are you the "go to person" in a specific area? This can be very affirming for a person or, in some cases, a burden if you are taken advantage of. I believe it would be easier for most of us to answer this question for someone else rather than ourselves... I also believe that we would be much quicker with our list of what we can't do well... A sad truth... But [...]
